MEET THE ARTIST
Alan Gilsenan headshot

Alan Gilsenan is an award-winning Irish writer, filmmaker, and theatre director. His diverse body of film work extends across documentaries, feature films, and experimental work. He is a former Chairperson of the Irish Film Institute and a member of the boards of both Screen Ireland and RTÉ. He has also recently been appointed Chairperson of Fighting Words, a national organization that facilitates creative writing for children & young people. His many film productions include the feature dramas Timbuktu, The Meeting and Unless; the acclaimed documentary feature The Yellow Bittern: The Life & Times of Liam Clancy; the experimental film A Vision: A Life of WB Yeats;  The Ghost of Roger Casement; and the documentary series Daniel O’Connell: Forgotten King of Ireland. His film Ghosts of Baggotonia screened at the 2023 Irish Capital Film Festival.   


MEET THE MODERATOR
Conor Howard

Conor Howard is a seasoned producer, programmer, and facilitator of Irish arts events in the US. For thirty years, he worked as literary programmer for the Irish Arts Foundation, a community-based multidisciplinary arts group in the San Francisco Bay Area. His work includes co-production of "Finnegans Awake," the largest festival of Irish writing west of the Rockies, in association with Stanford/Golden Gate University and Irish Consulate SF, 2000; co-production of the International Joyce Conference "Extreme Joyce/Reading on the Edge,” with UC Berkeley, 2001; and the San Francisco Irish Film Festival, of which he is founder and original producer. Howard has also hosted an ongoing series of readings and conversations with Irish writers and poets; just some of which include Seamus Heaney, Edna O'Brien, Roddy Doyle, and Colm Tóibín. He currently serves as Sole Proprietor of Anna Livia Books.
