The Frederick Douglass Project was commissioned by Solas Nua in 2018. African-American playwright Psalmayene 24 and Irish playwright Deirdre Kinahan joined up to tell the story of Douglass's 1847 journey to Ireland. Staged outdoors on a floating pier on the Anacostia River, the production overlooked Douglass's historic home on Cedar Hill. The show was a celebrated hit for Solas Nua, earning a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Ensemble, and was nominated for 6 awards including Outstanding New Play. As part of our 20th anniversary season, Solas Nua is bringing back this fan-favorite show as a one-night play reading.
Join us after the reading for a post-show discussion with playwright Psalmayene 24 and original director of the production, Raymond Caldwell.
