Introduction by Solas Nua’s Kate Meenan-Waugh

The short film genre has been a particular favorite of Solas Nua’s audience each year at the Capital Irish Film Festival (CIFF).  Often, these clever and sometimes poignant stories get overshadowed by the feature films on our program. Join us as we give them a night to themselves.

Pirates
Director Arnold O’Driscoll.
In 1980s Ireland, Pirate radio was huge, it was cheap, easy and will make you famous! Three
adolescents decide broadcasting like this is their way to get a piece of the action.

Welcome to a Bright White Limbo
Director Cara Holmes, Producer Zlata Filipovic, Cinematographer Luca Truffarelli.
Combining documentary and dance performance, this visually arresting film dives into the mind and creative process of Oona Doherty’s award-winning dance show, “Hope Hunt”.

Ciúnas/Silence
Writer/Director/Producer Tristan Heanue - Irish language, subtitles.
A couple embarks on a journey during a family crisis involving their daughter.

UnLucky
Director/Producer Orlaith Mc Manus, Cinematographer David Christopher Lynch.
A couple experiences the pain, laughter and uncertainty of fertility treatment, while trying to keep their relationship (and beloved cat) alive.

Broken Reflection
Writer/Director/Editor Sean Treacy.
Aidan is a young influencer who performs dangerous stunts online to be noticed and attract followers.
However, when his morals begin to challenge his work, he realizes that sharing content with the world isn’t as straightforward as he once thought.

NYU DC will be using Zoom for this screening. Register for this event, and you will receive a link in your inbox one hour before the film begins so you can join the screening.

This project is supported by Culture Ireland and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, which receives support from the National Endowment of the Arts.
