Fishamble: The New Play Company from Dublin, Ireland has built an international reputation for their critically acclaimed Show in a Bag program which was run for over a decade with partners Dublin Fringe Festival and Irish Theatre Institute to help artists create their own, tour-friendly shows. Plays from this initiative have won many international awards, have been regularly featured in The New York Times, The Irish Times, have been adapted to screen and tv productions, and have enjoyed tours around the world. 35 Show in a Bag productions created work for 46 artists, and achieved over 1,400 performances, reaching a conservatively estimated live audience of over 50,000.
Solas Nua is delighted to host Jim Culleton, Artistic Director of Fishamble, in a masterclass workshop for DMV artists looking to create their own performance showcase. Jim will share insight and experience for freelance artists to empower themselves and generate their own material. Show in a Bag alumni Margaret Mc Auliffe (The Humours of Bandon) will join the conversation to discuss her own process for creating her show, which has enjoyed years of successful international productions.
In addition to the discussion, participating artists will be led through creative writing prompts to generate initial ideas.
The workshop will be held at Atlas Performing Arts Center on Thursday June 1 from 12pm-5pm and costs a small fee of $10 to participate. It is currently SOLD OUT.
We look forward to fostering a new generation of show in a bag projects in Washington, DC!
