We were thrilled to be in residence at The Kennedy Center this summer! Solas Nua was invited to spend a week at The Reach - the new wing of the Kennedy Center focused on the creation and development of new work. And that’s exactly what we did - Artistic Director of Theatre Rex Daugherty spent the residency working on some exciting new projects that Solas Nua is developing over the coming year.
Director Laley Lippard joined Rex for editing footage of the film we are producing of our US premiere production of In The Middle of the Fields by Deirdre Kinahan. We staged the play (also directed by Laley) earlier this summer outdoors in a field (appropriately so), which marked our first in-person performance since March of 2020, and we are so excited to be in post-production for the film. We can’t wait to share it with audiences soon!
Rex also spent some time getting started on some new commissions that will be rolling out during 2022. Those details are top secret at the moment but if you enjoyed some of our recent commissions like The Frederick Douglass Project or Sidewalks, then you’re going to be blown away by what we have in the works!
President John F. Kennedy said, “If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him.” We were so inspired by this fantastic week of development and the space to dream up new ideas.
Thank you to The Kennedy Center for setting Solas Nua free at The Reach!
